According to the World Bank evaluation of the Russian system of health care (“Russia Health Policy”, 2007, The World Bank) role of nurses and nursing in the health care system is underestimated, misunderstood and thus should be reviewed. In addition, nurses, particularly, chief nurses have lack of knowledge in the field of public health, including modern principles of medical management and organizational theory of health care. It is widely recognized that changes and reforms in health services of countries in the transition period require medical staff in general, and nurses in particular, to be familiar with the health policy of the system in which they work and to use advanced methods of management. During the program, students will acquire theoretical know-how and management skills with an emphasis on leadership development.

The course will be held at Tver State Medical Academy. It will start at 9 am on Monday, November 30, 2009 and end at 3 pm on Friday, December 11, 2009.

Traditional meeting of the Rector with international students of the Tver State Medical Academy was held on October, 7 in the main hall of the TSMA.

The Rector raised many issues, including regulations of living in student’s dorms and fire safety.

Rector Kalinkin pointed out that every student of the Tver State Medical Academy has legal right to make appointment with him, the office hours are: Monday 3pm-6pm, Wednesday 3pm-6pm.

The European Society for Clinical Investigation is able to invite applications for grants of up to EUR 800 each towards the cost of attending the Society's Annual Scientific meeting. Funds are provided by ESCI.

ESCI was founded in 1967 and is a truly interdisciplinary association of clinicians and basic scientists across Europe working to integrate the different aspects of biomedical research. In the official journal of the society, the European Journal of Clinical Investigation, studies can be published, performed from bench-to-bedside and vice versa, including animal studies relevant to human health and disease. During the three working days planned at the large and central university hospital “Policlinico” and in the Aula Magna, several topics will be addressed by well-known international scientists dealing with the mechanisms of molecular, cellular, endocrine, gastroenterological aspects and their consequences for growth, inflammation, metabolic regulation, and atherosclerosis. Workshops, plenary lectures, and poster exhibitions will guarantee a highly integrated approach throughout the congress dealing also with key aspects on methodology of research. Best contributions in the field of clinical investigation will be acknowledged by poster awards, ESCI awards and the prestigious Albert Struyvenberg Medal 2010. For young scientists from the new European countries, ESCI provides special membership fees and travel grants to attend the annual meeting where it is our aim to pool bench to bedside researchers to focus on the different integrated aspects of Science.

The highlight of the month was the State Visit of President of India Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil to Russia from 2-6 September 2009 at the invitation of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. She visited both Moscow and St Petersburg. In addition to her meeting with President Medvedev, the Honorable President also met Prime Minister Valdimir Putin, Chairman of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov, Chairman of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov, Special Representative of the President of Russia to the North West Federal District Ilya Klebanov.

In Moscow the Honorable President met delegation of scientific and cultural elite of Russia. Rector of the Tver State Medical Academy Prof. Mikhail Kalinkin was among the invited guests. The TSMA has the largest number of students from India among all universities of Russia. Rector Mikhail Kalinkin is the head of the Association of Russian Universities in India.
